Free Cataract Surgery with Auckland Regional Charity Hospital (ARCH)
Re:Vision has been working closely with Auckland Regional Charity Hospital (ARCH) for years to provide free cataract treatment for those denied access to timely care through the public system.
We understand that there are some people who do not qualify for publicly funded cataract treatment but like so many others, need their vision restored so that they too can get back to work sooner rather than later. Thanks to ARCH, Re:Vision Sight Correction Centre can help provide free cataract surgery for patients based anywhere in the North Island.
How ARCH’s free elective cataract surgeries work
As medical professionals, we are uniquely positioned to notice issues within the healthcare system that others may miss. Over the years, we’ve seen many patients who don’t qualify for publicly funded cataract surgery but cannot wait until they do. We aim to help these people get back to their work, caregiving role, or any other activities as fast as they need to.
GPs and Optometrists can apply to ARCH directly. ARCH then matches patients with doctors. If ARCH decides that you qualify for cataract treatment with Re:Vision, the procedure is funded by the team at Re:Vision and is free to you, the patient. What is reassuring is that all patients are receiving the exact same level of care and quality that any other patient at our private centre would enjoy. The only difference is that patients receiving free cataract surgery through ARCH cannot choose their surgeon, which is an option through the public healthcare system.
Single-eye treatments
In some cases, a patient may have been able to access treatment for one eye through public healthcare but are unable to receive treatment for the second. Waiting isn’t always the best option, as imbalanced vision for a long period can cause problems and make tasks such as driving difficult and dangerous.
In these cases, Re:Vision can still help. Through our Community Care Package, we offer cataract treatments at significantly reduced costs—the lowest cataract surgery price in Auckland. As this is not part of the ARCH programme, patients can choose their surgeon.
Why we do what we do
Re:Vision has always been an extension of Dr Gray’s philosophy toward life and was founded on the idea that vision correction can play a key role in helping others take control of their lives. We are proud to offer our services to those who need them, and we truly believe that making vision correction accessible is an important part of what we do. In fact, a percentage of every operation we perform goes toward funding our pro bono work for those who need it most in the community.
